The 2021 Mason Tenders’ Scholarship Program

THE PROGRAM:

The Mason Tenders’ Scholarship Program is sponsored by the Mason Tenders’ Training Fund. Its purpose is to encourage and assist the children of Mason Tenders’ to pursue their goals – to strive to be their best through advanced education.

The Scholarship awards are $3,000.00 a year for a maximum of four years. Winners of the Mason Tenders’ Scholarship Program must attend any accredited four year College or University in the United States and may select any course of study leading to a Bachelor’s Degree.

Believing that higher education is the key to personal fulfillment, we wish you well in your pursuit of higher education.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

To qualify for the competition, the applicant must be a secondary school senior who will graduate during the current academic year and who will enter College or University within a year after graduation, and be either:

  • A dependent child of a working Mason Tender who has earned a minimum of one (1) pension credit in calendar year 2020 and who is a member of Local 78 Asbestos & Hazardous Materials Laborers or Local 79 Construction & General Building Laborers affiliated with Mason Tenders’ District Council of Greater New York;

OR

  • A dependent child of a retiree who is receiving a pension from the Mason Tenders’ District Council Pension Fund during 2020 and who is a member of Local 78 Asbestos & Hazardous Materials Laborers or Local 79 Construction & General Building Laborers affiliated with the Mason Tenders’ District Council of Greater New York.

HOW WINNERS ARE DETERMINED:

The Mason Tenders’ Scholarship winners are selected by an independent scholarship committee of educators from the field of higher education whose training and experience qualify them to evaluate applicants by use of such information as high school academic record, extra-curricular activities, student’s statements and test scores.

Each candidate must be willing to accept the decision of the Scholarship Committee as final.

Winners will be announced by June. Each scholarship award will be effective when the winner has enrolled in the College or University to which he or she has been admitted. The scholarship award will be sent directly to the College or University at which the recipient is enrolled. The stipend will be credited to the recipient’s account and used in accordance with the scholarship policy of the College or University.

HOW TO PROCEED:

To compete for the Mason Tenders’ Scholarship, the following steps must be taken:

  1. Register and take the ACT College Readiness Assessment OR the College Board Reasoning Test (SAT) no later than the December administration.
  2. Go to https://aim.applyISTS.Net/MasonTenders to Complete the Online Application.

OTHER FACTS YOU SHOULD KNOW:

A scholarship winner who maintains satisfactory progress toward his or her degree, according to standards for the scholarship renewal set by the College or University, will retain his/her scholarship throughout the normal period of attendance or until requirements for a bachelor’s degree are complete, whichever is earlier.

It is mandatory that the student qualify each year by furnishing the Scholarship Committee with evidence of satisfactory academic progress. If a recipient’s studies are interrupted by illness or other extenuating circumstances, he/she may request that The Mason Tenders’ Scholarship be held for him/her during that time. Any such interruption must be reported to ISTS for action.

The Mason Tenders’ Scholarship Committee reserves the right to interpret all rules and regulations regarding the Scholarship Program and any decision made by this Committee is final and irrevocable.

Before going online to complete the application, read the information in this brochure about qualifications and procedures for applying. By carrying out these instructions carefully, you will be considered for one of the scholarship awards. Application for the Mason Tenders’ Scholarship does not constitute application for college admission. It is your responsibility to apply for and gain admission to the college of your choice. A Scholarship award assures you of financial aid only after you have been admitted to a college.
